The Solo Ocarina, a vintage project of ours, presented an intriguing challenge - how to create a product that fosters community interaction. Our focus was on enhancing the coffee shop experience, a place where locals gather for conversation, music, culture or even remote work. We seized the opportunity to reimagine the humble coffee cup, by devising a novel vacuum-formed lid, embellished with a branding label that can be removed, transforming the lid from a mere cover to an active wind instrument. Simply peel off the sticker to reveal the finger holes, and voilà! By altering the liquid volume in the cup, the instrument's pitch can be adjusted. We crafted a range of prototypes, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive.
